IT Home reported on October 6 that LG Electronics announced yesterday, local time, that its North American division had reached a long-term agreement with HVAC services company AIR Control Concepts to supply advanced chillers for artificial intelligence data centers (AIDCs) with a capacity of more than 5 GW.
AIR is responsible for hyperscale infrastructure projects in major North American data center hubs, and its main clients are leading global data center operators. The long-term contract will accelerate LG's expansion into the global AIDC cooling market and meet the growing demand for efficient heat dissipation solutions in computing infrastructure.
LG's AIDC chillers combine a centrifugal air-cooled design with refrigerant free-cooling technology, using cold outdoor air to reduce the cooling load on compressors. According to LG's internal simulations, refrigerant free-cooling technology can save about 30% more energy annually than water-cooling technology.
